Saraca asoca (Rox b), belonging to the family Caesal-piniaceae, is a rich source of number of plant metabolites. In this study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized using aqueous bark extract of Saraca asoca as the reducing agent. The nano formulation is biocompatible in vivo. In the excision wound mice model the percent of wound contraction in green silver nanoparticle treated mice was 100% at the end of 15th day which was significantly higher than (p<0.01) that of the control and standard drug silver sulfadiazine treated wound which were approx. 52% and 92% respectively. SEM images and histopathological studies indicated accelerated healing process with well-formed epidermis with arranged fibroblasts and well vascularized tissue at the dermis-epidermis junction in comparison to silver sulfadiazine treatment. Therefore, the phyto-components present on the surface of the nanoparticle possess good therapeutic potential in accelerated wound healing for their anti-inflammatory as well as antimicrobial activities.
